Rudi Crivici is a Sydney based composer /sound artist / acoustic & electric viola/ improviser.
Rudi’s current practice is focused on developing cinematic style soundscapes and ambient grooves which are informed by his experience as a classical violist and violinist over many decades.
In 2016, he formed the ensemble sPeeP as a vehicle to express this unique style of music and this continues to be his main creative focus.
RUDI started his professional music career in the 1980s as a freelance violist and violinist performing with orchestras and ensembles such as the Sydney & Melbourne Symphony Orchestras, Australian Chamber Orchestra, Tasmanian and West Australian Symphony Orchestras.
Rudi also worked extensively in music theatre productions and as a backing musician for international touring companies and artists such as The Paris Opera, Covent Garden Ballet, Barbara Streisand, Barry White, Pavarotti, Guy Sebastian, John Farnham and Olivia Newton John.
In the 1990s Rudi was a founding member of the Elektra String Quartet. The quartet was best known for pioneering the integration of technology, improvisation and cross cultural collaborations within the classical tradition. Elektra collaborated with numerous musicians and ensembles in Australia including Nigel Westlake, Synergy, Philip South, Mark Atkins, Sydney Dance Company and Dale Barlow to name a few. Elektra toured Nationally and Internationally and recorded four albums.
Rudi became a member of Elektra Collective Unconscious in 2018, performing innovative improvisations on electric viola.
Throughout the 2000s, Rudi continued to work as a freelance musician and teacher and he continues to do this to the present.
